Hosting question

Hey,
I am using a shared hosting, because I can not afford the dedicated one. I`ve noticed that I share the same hosting with 400 other websites - can it hurt my SEO? For example if one of those websites is penalized or in the shitlist of google - is it going to have a negative impact on my projects? Is it possible to check what google thinks about my host? Thanks for your answers.
