I was in negotiation with a potential client, and they mentioned that others were offering free hosting and minor updates. I was wondering how they managed to offer free hosting to clients when all the plans I know charge periodically. Does someone offer a plan with lots of bandwidth and storage for many websites to be hosted by one larger entity?

I personally use a reseller hosting plan for my clients, but at most I'd offer 12 months free hosting and then charge yearly after that.

You have to remember on web design world you have people selling websites for $100 and people selling them for $10k+ so you can't sell to the whole market, you should pick your price point and then agree to turn people away if they are not on the same page as you.

Have had no issues using hostwinds ssd web hosting service. My sites where all transferred free and everything went smooth.
My business has grown as a direct result of the service and support they offer.

Most Designers will use a reseller Hosting Plan. This way your cost is set. So on Top side for a good host you are looking at 30 to 40 bucks a month with WHMCS.

So really all you have to do is have 3 customers paying you 10 to 15 bucks a month and your hosting cost is covered.

Back in the Day when I had a marketing company. I would charge x amount for the web site. Then X amount for hosting and web site edits. usually it was around 25 bucks a month. Most clients after the site is up they may need 1 to edits a year that take only a few min to do.

You get a few customers doing something like that then you are making some ok money.

Tell them to rather use the people who are offering free stuff. You don't want cheap ass clients, trust me. Good clients won't mind paying for proper hosting.

resale hosting .

that how it done , they provide account for free because there a resale hosting account holder..

good luck.

I use Interserver.net their shared web hosting plan & It is good :).

This is because, they do have their own server or they are the reseller hosting provider. Such provider will cost the amount more for web designing which will cover the web hosting cost too. That is the strategy but client will never come to know that the web designing cost is including all other hosting expenses.

Many of the web designer applies the same strategy.

As a web freelancer i let the choice to my customer:

They can self host them website but then if something happen with the website i don't provide any free support.. It's happen a lot like the cousin of a friend of my kid know webdesign... I ask him to make a minor modif but he crash the website you need to fix it.. QUOTATION

If i host myself i use a reseller plan and describe in my price that include 1year of hosting plan and domain. (for sure i charge it in my original quotation) then i write in my quotation the price of renewal for the next year like that no one can claim nothing as free service after the expiration date.

I think the most important point is to be the clearest possible in you quotation and even describe what is the definition of a minor modification.

cheers

Hello dear; Go for reseller hosting plan so that you also give your customer 1 year free hosting plan and charge yearly after that.
