Hosting For Corporate Sites

I am not that knowledgeable when it comes to hosting but know all the big names that offer limited shared hosting like hostgator, 1&1 etc. etc.

I need to host a corporate site that was developed in PHP & PostreSQL. I have been advised only a very small number of hosts will allow the PostreSQL database which I have only recently come across most ppl seem to use mySQL from my travels but apparently ppl like Skype use PostreSQL and rave about how good it is and how its the core of their business blah blah blah.

I think we are tied to using one of the above or setting up our own web hosting? How easy is this to do. I have been advised we need Linux / Apache environment to run. I believe its not suitable for windows environments. But then again nothing is really suitable for a Microsoft environment

Any help would be greatly appreciated. As I am just doing some research and need to come up with a plan.

Some ppl here say you use some say dont use against the rules. But I appreciate your advice.

I am actually most interested in setting up my own dedicated hosting in house. Just checking out how feasible this is.

Would appreciate any feedback on any of the four companies I previously mentioned as I think we could be tied to them as our previous suppliers have recommended them to us.
