Hosting companies ID verification?

I am trying to open an account with hosting company, has some kind of law changed that I did not know about?

Is it normal to ask for photos of:

passport
residence permit
tax returns
photo of bank statement?

Feels a little like someone prepping for identity theft, am I going crazy?

I have recently signed up with Ionos and yes, they asked me for verification

Is it a well known company with a solid reputation, such as Siteground, WPX etc or a new, unknown one?

One I have used for pbn host some years ago which is why I am surprised, ill check if they have changed hands.
