OK I have a forum with a dedicated bunch of us :) maybe 30 active members? That sounds like little but we're rather active. We've been friends for years.

My techy friends right now pay $40/m to host the site! They're using vB. They can't keep affording it. I asked them why they didn't host it on my hostgator baby plan but they said it uses too much RAM.

Is there another forum system we could use that we could host on hostgator? Or cheap hosting that would give us enough RAM? Please let me know guys, you are all amazing at helping out and giving answers :D (seriously!) thanks in advance :)

Put it on your baby plan - I can almost guarantee there will be enough bandwidth. You can't be using that much bandwidth between 30 of you...

Are you guys streaming 500 movies a day to all 30 of you every single day?

Shared hosting should be FINE for your numbers

Shit if it's too much for hostgator, its not too much for Hostwinds we will make it work

With 30 active members? I don't think so. I've hosted sites with XXX,XXX visits a day on a HG baby plan without issues.

They only have 30 active members... it can't be that big unless they sit there uploading porn and hosting videos all day long...

Do yourself a favor and double check if it can run on a baby plan as suggested by @meathead1234

I would be surprised if that doesn't work out with a forum with 30 members.

Otherwise - search for a hosting solution on this forum.

Why don't you get a VPS? For cheap servers, I recommend Layered Link.
