I have a couple of Wordpress sites that get around 10k uniques a day and I want to bump down from my dedicated at Webair.

What do you guys think of Hostgator VPS, can it handle that?

Also if you have any coupons post them please. Thanks!

Yes, 10K unique visitors a day could be handled by a VPS. However, I would recommend considering a Dedi Server, keeping in mind that your site resource consumption may increase during peak hours.

I've had Hostgator for several years and I've bee very happy with them. If you intend on using CPanel, you will need the Level 3 VPS.

I've also been with HG for a while and have no complaints, they have excellent customer service.

You will most likely get a warning and be allowed to upgrade. I've gotten a few warnings in the past without interruption of service.

You can also go to their main web page and chat with customer service. I find them to be very competent.

I had a hostgator VPs and wasn't really happy. Even though it was supposed to have more memory and CPU than the dedi, it did not perform as well so I moved back

Yes, they do warn if the usage increases 80% of the total allocated.

So I ordered one and lo and behold there is no ftp, no php and no mysql installed. Very curious that these BASICS are not installed, very unhappy. :(

Hostgator is very transparent with its prices, it says very obviously that it's extra for cPanel, and even mentioned at the top of this thread. Whenever I've had to talk to their support team they've always been cool people, and fixed my problems within minutes (literally).

My guess is you just jumped right in without reading everything.

According to their vps hosting page it mentions mysql/php etc and also says FULLY managed... but I digress...

The real point I wanted to make is:
A web host that doesnt include mysql/php/ftp as default is a bit strange in this day and age dont you think? Also why do they need to have Cpanel to install mysql/php/ftp?

For the wordpress script, the best webserver for it was LiteSpeed. You can find that wordpress.org was using LiteSpeed webserver.

    PHP:

But, It need some experience with Linux to setup the LiteSpeed Webserver. Try cpanel first.

Maybe used cpanel can make their work easy. If you know linux, you don't need cpanel to make the vps work. Apache/php/mysql, both of them are free.
