HostGator problems with CC payment?

Has anyone had any kind of difficulty signing up for HG using a personal credit/debit card? I've just attempted several times, and they keep telling me that their merchant provider is unable to process the transaction.

I've tried several cards, each having a balance on them that is more than sufficient to cover the plan fees. I'm not having a problem buying items anywhere else, so I'm just trying to figure out what's happening here.

I know that a lot of you use VCCs to purchase plans from HG, so perhaps you could shed some light as to the reason why. What I take from most of the prior posts here is that the usage of VCCs allows you to create multiple accounts and thereby reaping the *added* benefits that come with each one. I just find it to be an unnecessary expense when I have several cards that I can use just the same.

Perhaps, though, there is some other reason (related to billing) that you guys at BHW prefer VCC usage over your tangible cards?

i think your order gets flagged because of fraud.

if the transactions goes through, then you also have to call them or verify yourself with a copy of your id and creditcard.

So, my valid order with my real information gets flagged as fraud. That's classic, and a good reason for me to do business with their competition.

Maybe I should try to create an order using fake account details and someone else's credit card. It would really piss me off if that went through without a hitch.

And, just a note, my order doesn't go through at all. It's as if I never tried to place the order....no charge, no email, nada. And, what's this about the ID verification requirement? Does HG require this from orders from U.S. residents? If I'm giving them valid information about myself (address and phone) and using my own credit card, I don't see why they need my driver's license.

I could see if I was using a proxy or maybe even a VPN, but it's my home network. Do they flag orders based on your internet provider? It would be quite problematic, at least I think, for them to do such a thing, but who knows in this case.

most services use automatic systems to detect possible fraud orders.

it could be because of your ip (region does not fit to your ip f.e.) or maybe the bin (bank identification number) of your credit card is blacklisted because they are used for fraud a lot (prepaid cards or virtual carders n stuff).

if you can resolve the problem with the payment and it will go through, you will have to send them a copy of your id and/or credit card.

but you can call them or use livesupport so your order gets processed very fast.

My question is this:

Does HG require ID verification for orders in the U.S. or is it just specific countries? And I'm trying to pinpoint the trigger since my IP is relative to the actual city that I live in and my card is bank-issued.

If I call or order through live support, will they still give me all of this trouble? I'm not up for giving all of my information to some random customer service guy.

There's obviously a problem somewhere. You should just call HG and explain the situation and see if they can run your card on their end. If not then they will be able to tell you exactly what the problem is.

Who knows if they will give you trouble or not, just call them and stop complaining. If you don't want to give them your info over the phone then that's up to you, you will not get an account with HG.

All I can say is that I've never had a payment problem with them.

Yes Hosting now days is a risky business and they wont to protect them self.

Call them and see what the problem is, you will get an answer and know what to do, saving time.
