novel92 it is your ISP problem. There will be update on isp DNS so you will be able to open hostgator sites normaly. Call your ISP and tell them that you cant open any site so they will check.
Start > RUN > type: cmd > and on the cmd type: ipconfig /flushdns

I had one of my accounts compromised, apparently someone hacked it and installed a mailer script.
To be honest though, I think it may have been a programmer we had hired for this project recently but I'm not 100% positive.

Have you tried using public dns servers instead of your ISPs maybe?
Google and opendns both provide this service (amongst others probably).
If you're still having problems you should open up cmd and preform a tracert and see exactly where your connection is dropping.
