This is annoying they just cut you off. Asides from a dedicated box for this site, which i don't want, what other hosting is out there which will scale better or something? I spend all day emailing them back and forth to get it back online.

Just try WebHostingTalk.com and check out the VPS and dedicated offers. You will learn ALOT about hosting from listening to the pros
    talk.

Almost any of the web hosting forums are valuable. Just when I think I know something I will pay a visit and realize how clueless I am. If I keep learning I may realize I know nothing at all!

if your using that much cpu, just spend the money on a dedi, a vps will fall over during peak hours with that sort of load anyway

OP .... your comments echo... are exact to what happened with my hosting provider. they cut suspended my (many) websites. Wordpress and forum websites .. I think it may have been a plugin I added, but not sure.

The point is I share your concerns and stressed. All my sites are down.. And need hosting but do not just want to make a quick move for it to all happen again.

    Who to go to ?

Not sure what causes it, might be just traffic spike and then they nuke it.

if you're using high cpu either you're doing something wrong (i.e. wordpress without cache), or hitting something hard enough to justify a vps/dedi.. you decide :)

not even close, vps's have huge running overhead and you can lock down easily to specific resources, shared hosting, each user will take as much as they want unless u suspend the offending users, shared hosting runs all accounts from a single webserver and db instance, that in turn makes it a hell of a lot harder to lockdown accounts

on a unix/linux shared setup you could of course use limits/nice to enforce resource limits per user, but in practice you're right.. they'll just turn you off

limits generally arent for your entire user and if they capped you at 1% cpu usage on your php, you would be stuck at that for the entire runtime of your php script, which means more apache threads waiting to send the entire reply of your page and so on which just ends up doing more harm than good on servers plus mysql has no way to proportionally limit cpu usage per user, you can limit queries/hour and concurrent connections BUT someone could do simple queries while another does evil subselects... lol it just doesnt work in practice and the overheads for what you can implement are huge, hence, vps

Use caching. Hostgator love it. I stuff 600 domain on one hosting account. When CPU too high I just buy another baby account.
