Once upon a time HostGator was an amazing host, but unfortunately they have gone down hill significantly in the past year which is presumably due to the buyout by EIG (EIG has a record for destroying good hosts when they buy them out). GoDaddy I don't believe they have ever been known for being a good hosting provider.
All in all, check out WHT for a lot of good reviews on both.
