For platforms like TikTok, Reels, or YouTube Shorts, the first 3 seconds dictate performance. If the initial hook fails to grab attention, viewer retention drops immediately regardless of overall content quality.

I also think the same. If you don't grab attention in first few seconds, the algo kills the vid regardless of how good is the rest.

Absolutely right agree with you because short form content seconds create an immediate reason to keep watching so we should focus on the opening of video to increase curiosity for better engagement and to hold the audience and make them to stop scrolling and watch full video, because while watching shorts the viewer swipe almost instantly if the start of the video don't looks like curios or weak. So for tiktok, reels and youtube shorts the first few seconds are critical.

Yes you are correct. You've gotta catch your audience's eyeballs in the first 3 seconds and try not to make them bounce off, because in the long term the algo will not favor you.

The first few seconds matter a lot. I usually try to start with the main point or a question instead of wasting time on an intro.

So how would you guys hook viewers in the first three seconds for a SaaS for websites (providing TikTok, Insta or YouTube are smart enough to direct the video at people that would be interested in it?)?

Would you rather use:

a) Your on reel/channel
b) Pay a content creator
c) Use a video ad

The first few seconds matter a lot. A clear hook, quick payoff, and no slow intro usually helps retention more than adding extra effects.

Yeah the first few seconds are huge. If the hook doesn't make me want to keep watching I'm probably swiping before the good part even starts.

needs to create curiosity right away
IMO using a proven trend also works. People can watch a video just because they like the concept. For some it might come as overused, but different people get different exposure to videos and trends, so it might keep working for a long time.
