Do you think most SEO strategies fail because they’re wrong — or because everyone starts using them at the same time?

I’ve noticed that once a tactic becomes “standard advice,” its impact drops fast, even if it still works in theory.

Curious how others stay ahead of this without over-complicating things.

They probably don’t fail because they’re wrong, it’s more that too many people flock to them.
Once something becomes the “standard advice,” two things happen:
Everyone executes it at the same sort of baseline level, and the competitive advantage it once had disappears due to saturation.
SEO feels less about fringe tactics and more about how well you execute the fundamentals. The tactic still works, just that it stops being differentiated if that makes sense.

It usually happens because once a strategy becomes popular, too many people apply it in the same way. When everyone copies the same tactic, it stops being an advantage and just becomes the baseline. Search engines also adapt. As patterns get overused, algorithms adjust, which reduces the impact. So it's not that the strategy is wrong, it just loses its edge when it’'s overdone.

Seo strategy fail due to number of reasons. Including 2 you mentioned. There are no hard and fast rule in seo, you are basically gaming the search engine to get unfair advantage. There is hardly any scientific behind it. Seo is an art more then science.

One of the key factors is that everyone eventually starts using the same tactic. When a “trick” isn’t publicly known, it can work for a long time. But once it becomes widely adopted, search engines quickly adapt to it. It stops being something unique and turns into something standard - sometimes even just a basic requirement.

However, it’s not only about that. I’ve often noticed that even the same specialist, doing everything in the same way, can get completely different results. So we shouldn’t forget that besides clear algorithms, Google also has a randomness factor that doesn’t fully fit into any strict strategy.

Both, but mostly because it becomes mainstream. Once everyone uses it, the advantage disappears even if it still works.

Stay ahead by applying the same tactics in smaller niches, long-tail keywords, or moving faster than others.

Hunt for low-competition gaps, not new tricks.

most stuff stops working cause it gets crowded not cause it’s wrong once everyone copies the same trick google tunes it out.

It’s true that many strategies lose impact once they become widely adopted, so it’s wise to keep testing and adapting rather than relying on one “popular” method. Focusing on consistent quality, staying observant of market trends, and making small improvements over time can help you stay competitive without overthinking things. Sometimes the best move is simply avoiding crowded tactics and choosing approaches that naturally fit your project.

SEO is relative. If 5 people optimize properly, they win.
If 5,000 people optimize properly, only the top 10 survive.

This usually happens because once a strategy gains popularity, too many people start using it in the exact same way. When everyone adopts the same approach, it no longer provides a competitive advantage — it simply becomes the standard. Search engines evolve as well. As certain patterns become overused, algorithms adjust accordingly, reducing their effectiveness. So the strategy itself isn’t necessarily flawed; it just loses its impact when it’s overused.
