Homepage

Hello just wondering what others do with there affiliate site homepage? I'm not to sure on this i have a few affiliate sites and on some i have just a normal homepage with like 1k word of content just about the product. Others i have just the blog post style.
What do you guys think is the best in terms of SEO? Does anyone try to rank for a certain longtail keyword in there homepage? Would a 3k word homepage be better?
Based on my rankings i couldn't tell much of a difference but then again I am in different niches so it's hard to compare.

Toptenreviews.... Check out that site. Study how its homepage and inner category and product pages are done. Get the idea and create your own design. For me, that site is a perfect example of how my aff/review site should look and work, on much smaller scale of course because that review site is well managed by professionals and resources, and I am just a nobody... Also, they have probably the best domain name! That site has everything working together for them IMO.

I always go to toptenreviews when I need general services reviewed (best screen recorder, hosting etc.)!
