Homepage is the same as another page

The homepage of my site has one article shown on it. So the title and content of the homepage is the same as the other url of the article on the site. Will I get penalized for this?

It depends, if you're using a blogging platform like Wordpress for example and have canonical tags set up then it's ok

If you aren't using wp, or another blogging platform, like nycdude suggested, it would be wise to seperate the two pages and keep your home page just that, a home page, with access to the article page.

Otherwise, you are going to have that site in the gutter before you can finish reading this response.
