Holy sh%@ I just realized Namecheap is in Ukraine

What's gonna happen to all the sites hosted there if Ukraine is eventually controlled by the other guys and blocked off the West?

I think everyone oughta back their sites up ASAP.

Do you use their hosting or just use them for a registrar?

I would think as a registrar there would be no issue.

just moved my sites out of them last month because they've tried charging me 3x the $58 renewal fee and that got me enraged so I chose to move away from NC, so lucky me I guess :)

But I never knew that NC was based in Ukraine. Not that I have anything against Ukraine, on the contrary, as Romanian (Romania borders Ukraine on north, so we're neighbors) I do suffer and pray for them (and pray that we don't get dragged into this war as well)

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up!

Namecheap is a US based company (Los Angeles, California) with offices in some other countries as well. In Ukraine, Namecheap has offices in 3 locations.
However, such big web services based companies always have "business continuity" strategies in place, for example, data centers in various locations spread around the world, so that if any location is affected by a natural or unnatural event, then their hostings, etc are always load balanced on an ongoing basis to ensure that services are not affected or if affected then affected for the minimum time possible.
As per Namecheap website, all their data centers and servers are located in only 3 countries : US, UK and The Netherlands and as per Namecheap's website, 95% of their infrastructure is located in the US. So, any unexpected event in Ukraine, will not affect Namecheap's hosting(s).

Ah, glad you posted this
I'm heavy on NC

Yea but their technical staff is in Ukraine

Both....

As others pointed out, their technical staff is in UA, their HQ is USA.

I got tons of client sites there.... I hadn't even thought about this watching this stupid war.

I think all of their support staff are Ukrainian. The workforce is incredibly cheap there. Probably the same level as India.
Yes I think the CTO is from UA and every single person I've ever talked there is Ukrainian
First of all Ukraine will win this fight!
Moscow already going down literally ( https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...OWN-Cruiser-Moskva-hit-Ukrainian-missile.html ).
I'm not passing judgement on any of this, I think all wars need to end regardless.

We're not allowed to be political on the forum.

But if we were, I'd like to know where the Russian version of that is. Don't believe all the media.

Just to be clear to everyone, I'm talking strictly about the hosting + domains WHICH are for some reason in a warzone. No political bias here, I think all wars suck.

Yes but technical staff is all there in UA

"In February 2022, Namecheap announced that they would terminate services to Russian accounts due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, citing "war crimes and human rights violations". Existing users were given a one-week grace period to move their domains."

This is incredibly sick.

Why do these companies feel obligated to take action? And how are they dealing if another country is invading another country in the future? Also terminating accounts? If not, why? I just don't get how they take a stance and damage themselves so easily.

I agree. As a company I'd stay neutral. As a person I could have an opinion.

I just realized this almost 2 months into this stupid war...dumb me
Yeh, I used Namecheap. And the major share of the support team for Hostinger is also from Ukraine.
Is @Hostinger ok?

So, no problem we will lol, isn't it?
WAT

Thank you.
I use namecheap for hosting my sites and yes they show some sort of notification of this war and i do assume they are in ukraine or atleast some part of them in ukraine

I use them to register a few domains but don't host anything there.

I don't think, anything will happen with that. It's a private company.

They banned my email because it is .ru extension without warning
It’s better Move out from namecheap
