Holy, f'ing Hell! What now!

I am going to apologize upfront for the upcoming rant, but I have to get it off my chest. Nothing to do with IM or blackhat, just my everyday JOB.

I just received a phone call that the company I work for, the job I rely on to take care and provide for my family, filed f'ing bankruptcy yesterday. As of 5pm, yesterday I no longer have my day job. If that isn't enough to piss me off, come to find out that they can't pay us for the last two weeks if work...

So not only out of a job, but just worked the last two weeks for nothing! A load if f'ing BS.

So now, I am stuck to contemplate how I an going to provide for my wife, 2yr old son, and 2-week old daughter. I am so bloody mad I am almost numb. The only salvation is that I was able, by permission, to take what I want to from our warehouse. I stocked up with around 3-5k worth of supplies to sell in hopes of recouping my unpaid paycheck. Not much solace, but a little I guess.

Now if only I would have bought boomers script when I had the chance I could auction the shit off (they are good priced, desirable items) and stuff the auctions...

That's not the point of this rant though... Quite honestly, its a frustrating and somewhat scary time not only for myself, but the USA job market in general. Well, i thank you for allowing me to rant... I know this is not pertainent to this great forum, but I had to let it go somewhere...

Now off to find my jack daniels bottle

As the poster just before stated why not list what items you have for sale here at Blackhat? It would be appropriate to ask the Admin for permission.

If they approve you might be able to sell via PM's and take Paypal.

I hear you, I don't know what else to say but F@CK at this point.... I was the IT Director for a wholesale Beauty Supply place so basically I have a shit load of Flat Irons, Dryers, Curling Irons, Etc (after viewing eBay quite a bit today, they seem to be in high demand since they are the top of the line ones)... Also a few PCs

I REALLY hope I can turn this into a positive... Enough from home would be absolutely great... I hope your situation with your company at least leaves you with some notice (that may be the worse thing about this). Thanks for your comments!

Unfortunately not... Alot of that stuff has to be there so the bank can collect it as part of the bankruptcy... That is stuff that we actually had written inventory on.

Seems like you should easily find new employment, especially in that line of work. Find something quick to make ends meet while working on getting your online income going. Who knows, this might just turn out for the better!

I'm hoping so Booman... I have to keep telling myself that! After the initial shock wears off, and some JD kicks in, I think I will hit the job market a bit. I am now pushing to turn this online gig into a lot more... No sleep this weekend as I try to get it going

Yeah youre probably right Evil... I am looking into auction stuffing right now hoping that might be something I can understand well enough to put these items there and make some extra cash in the interim. If all else fails, the flea market might be the next best option.

The company for which I work is in need of a competent IT Manager/Director. They would prefer someone to work onsite here in NYC, but perhaps you could work something out with them to work remotely if you're not nearby.

I know you're working on getting out of the rat race, but perhaps a job would be what you need in the short term to avoid desperation & provide you some operating capital. That's what I did when certain family issues became overwhelming this year.

In any case, brush up your resume. If you wish, PM me and I'll give you my email address to which you can send your resume if you think the NYC gig might be a good fit for you. I can't promise anything, of course, but there's a good chance.

workfromhome11, really sorry to hear about that man. If you need immediate money relief, file for unemployment right away. It probably won't be much but it's better than nothing.

As mentioned above, you should start selling that stuff on ebay immediately.

On the other hand, this might be a blessing in disguise. I quit the 9 to 5 rat race about a year ago and now I'm working for myself. Trust me when I say that if I can do it, anyone can. You seem to be a smart person and I'm sure you'll do just fine. There are a lot of resources at your disposal right here in BHW.

That is step 1. It will buy you some time, and it is SOMETHING

Step 2. SELL on EBAY OR WP has a really nice storefront template. You can list merchandise and a countdown. It looks really simple as far as listing inventory.

Step 3. Have a cocktail

Step 4. List some more crap on ebay from your house. You don't need it all.

Step 5. take an inventory of all your talents you can offer us. Get your ass over to the WF and hold a WSO. It is entirely possible to make 10g in a weekend over there.

Step 6. more cocktails

Step 7. Go to bed, this is the end of day 1

But seriously - the economy sucks, jobs suck, let it roll a bit, do get the unemployment (that is what it is there for) and try starting your own business. If a retard like myself can do it you certainly can.

I have been in the same boat.

First things first, file for unemployment so atleast you will have some cash coming in.

Second, if you still can take stuff from the warehouse, empty that mofo! Regardless if the stuff is in inventory or not. Take everything from excess inventory to the toilet, pull out the plumbing if they have copper.
Do they use a forklift to move the pallets around?
Guess what, you are the proud owner of a new forklift!
When you are done pillaging, ebay/craigslift what you can.

P.S. if you have some of those "CHI" curling irons, women are crazy for those.

Sinewave, thank you very much for the heads up on your co. I am a bit of acreage away from the great NYC (Kansas) and relocation is out of the question at this moment according to my wife. Remote work would be great, but thats a bit of distance and most employers don't like that far if a distance for such a (normally) important job. I can't thank you enough for the thought though. I do want out if the rat race, but have to find that funding to continue online. I WILL find a way to make it work. Thanks again sinewave!
