Hitting the streets

I want to start hitting the streets this week. I'm thinking of what the best strategy would be for "incoming"
for a person to stop & pay attention rather than just the basics of you trying to stop them whilst they walk by?

Anyone experienced that could lend me some tips I'd be grateful I've only done sales over the phone.
With this I'm not even selling anything it's free they just need to sign up through my iPad on the spot.

your not going to get much response like this...give u some details....what are you selling?

Agreed with thorman If you don't want to reveal your plan at least point us in the direction of understanding what your campaign is all about, in order for bhw members to lend their support my2cents

Sure thing guys, thanks for replying.

Let's just say I'm dealing with a social networking website that allows people to have good benefits once they sign up & use the website etc.

What would be a good pitch to stop them & speak to them.

BTW I spoke to universities yesterday & I'm in the middle of setting some events within universities =) so this will bring the students coming our way rather than us chasing them as we can get a proper table & stick up a nice banner etc.

I wish I could reveal the site on BHW but the last thing I want is a juicy entrepreneur with heaps of money to get a few developers and try to launch the same site as I'm in the middle of getting a patent done, once that's done then I can be more open about it.

Get leaflets printed up & hand them out. When people take them, keep your hand on the leaflet & start talking to them - you'll be surprised how many stick around & listen!

Catch their attention... dress funny.. or get hot girls to do the talking. usually works

@GioGioB - The hot girl suggestion did cross my mind but I just can't see the hot girls linking in towards the concept of our website yes no doubt it would catch attention but I wanted something different hmm thanks for the suggestion though.

If you're around college campuses it's quite easy to get college students to volunteer their time for a worthwhile cause or promised future benefits. Seriously there are kids with way too much time on their hands that think getting 4 coupons for a free meal at the local pizza hut is worth spending hours a week pitching causes/products/websites or handing put leaflets.
