Hitting a PR "wall"?

So despite constantly working on SEO and having a boatload of original content and a very active userbase that constantly shares my content, I've hit a PR "wall". I haven't been able to break PR 4 for well over a year now. Just stuck there.

What am I missing? How can I break beyond that barrier?

PR 4 is good enough, now focus on ranking.

Very quality backlinks from edu sites will help a lot. But I do not mean those ones sold here or on fiver (No offense anybody).
