Hiring College/University Students

Considering university/college (Bachelor degree) students hold a large chunk of the demographic of this forum, I'm surprised university isn't discussed more. The only time it's mentioned is in those dumb lounge threads where people are going through a pre-life crisis and thinking about dropping out and think the BHW community should decide. Oxonbeef among others have mentioned the endless possibilities for making bank on campus.

So as with any campus, most kids are broke and desperate. Telemarketing and article writing are just some of the jobs I can think of.

Has anyone here hired college/university students?

Hiring College students is a good idea. With their public bulletin boards, it's really easy to get contact with them.

They're busy as is though, so a good idea is to post a CPA link or something on the bulletin boards.

College students can contribute to your content writing but works better when you have something that they would know better about. Specialist niches that go beyond the level of most writers can better and professionally be done by college students.

I think that people could be making more of of students that have a required co-op portion to their degree. There are many business and computer science students that are looking for jobs simply to fulfil the degree requirements. I was one of these students and money was secondary to getting my degree on time.

I got my Commerce degree from Dalhousie (Halifax, Canada) which required 3 work terms. I know that many of the students are scrambling to line up a paid or unpaid job just to get the co-op credit. I actually worked at an internet marketing firm for 2/3 of the terms and was paid peanuts.

There is definitely a good opportunity to find educated English-speaking temporary work if you look for co-op degrees.

Exactly. The topics are really endless. For the people who can't be bothered to be a teacher's assistant for almost minimum wage, they could write niche specific articles for a blog.

I'm thinking about starting a blog about investing, so I think I could hire some business students to write articles about what they know about investing. However, the business students are cocky so most won't want a job.

Other niches examples are kinesiology, music, nutrition, biology, cognitive science, religion, etc. It goes on!

Interesting, I'm also in Canada but the average internship pays $43,000 to our students. Some up to $90,000 with some even making $125,000.

I'm talking about the co-op internships that are part of an undergraduate degree. The jobs are only a term long (a few months ie. September-December) and the wage varies enormously and can often be completely unpaid. These students are usually pretty sharp (they were accepted to a university) and are looking to impress.

I've certainly considered hiring one of these students. It would help them out as well.

If you have a legitimate business with some real world credentials I'm 100% sure you could find marketing students to hire for things like social media, and even some basic SEO and the such if you don't mind training them.

As you probably guess by my logo I'm in college, and just in the past 2 months alone I've met up with multiple kids on campus from BHW, and you were right when you said their are a lot of unique opportunities for college kids to capitalize on their access to such a large network. And despite what I always hear/read quite a lot of college age kids have a relatively high disposable income.

college students would be good for data entry related tasks. everything else such as telemarketing is just a waste of time because

1) they typically have class during business hours
2) unreliable as shit
3) high turnover

college AGEish (18-30) folk that arent going to school on the other hand, make for great telemarketers with the right training.

Hire College students to promote your app around campus, go viral (maybe), profit.
Hire College students to sell your Intangible/tangible online/offline items and ship out, profit.
Hire College students to create next big app "IDEA", offer them % of app revenue, make app. (could be next flappy bird LoL).
Hire College students to promote your app for positive reviews & ratings (simple money for them, more rankings for you) .
Hire College students to promote your website creation service (charge students for simple WP websites at $15/m) 50x$15= $1.5k/m x per campus.
Hire College students to sell services that college students wouldn't want to do (papers, report, work) outsource to fiverr .
Hire College students skilled in communication/business to find businesses online who have negative reviews in their immediate area, contact them regarding the negative reviews they found online which held a 'bunch' of his/her college friends from going to eat at their place of business, have them refer you and receive a high paying reputation management client from urgency.

Maybe some won't work, but maybe some will
