Has anyone noticed a difference in followbacks when maintaining a high vs. low followings count? For a while I was keeping my followings below 1000 on my new account with around 5000 followers. It seems like everyone states that you should do this for the "aesthetics" of the account. However, lately I just decided to say fuck it and let it go up to about 2000.

So far, it seems like people are more likely to follow back when I have over a thousand followings, rather than following like 500 and having 5000 followers.

This is just a personal photography account btw. Anyways, just thought it was interesting and was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing.

Surprisingly I have done the same with twitter, always had a lower following than followers creating new accounts, then just started not caring and realized I was getting quite a few followbacks, very high when building a new account.

Only reason it seems better is because you lose followers when unfollowing...you haven't done that yet as you are still at the 2000 mark so those followers haven't left you yet. Also, to double the effect, because you haven't been doing these unfollows you have followed even more instead so have have gained more that way too.

Not sure I understand what you're saying. I'm talking about overall followbacks, not retained followers. Obviously I will lose some when I unfollow, but there are more overall to start with, which logically still puts me ahead compared to before. I still follow the same amount as before I stopped unfollowing (every other day). Days that I would normally unfollow just do nothing but likes right now.
