A client of mine had a couple of negative news articles written about them, as well as a page from a government website which presents them in a negative light. Two of these show up on the first page of Google and one on the second. The news site's DA is 81, the government site is DA 90. What is the most cost effective method of removing or burying these?

Go with a good ORM service and use DMCA takedown may be some will be successful, but keep trying. Bury the negative articles with more positive article. Will be expensive but doable.

Thanks. How expensive do you think it is likely to be?

The most effective method is to create high-quality, positive content (e.g, blog posts, press releases, and social media profiles) to push down the negative results in search rankings, combined with SEO optimization.

I would suggest doing PR marketing to give a positive impression of his image. And for the negative news articles, try contacting those news outlets, tell them they put the wrong information about your client and you will take legal action if they don't take it down.

This email should be from your client's law firm.

Unfortunately the news articles were about a court case which my client lost. Difficult to argue about the information being presented.

Do you believe this would be effective against sites with as high DA as those I mentioned?

Then create a positive image of your client that might be the only solution.

Depends on the keywords. For example if its something like "yourclient reviews" you could always focus on review sites and other type of articles in high reputed sites with an exact match.

You can't remove those links from government sites that easily. your best choice will be buying some guest posts in related and high quality sites; after that, you can do some link building to move those links up and ghost those negative ones.

Since you can't remove those bad articles, the best approach would be to create new positive articles to create a better impression. It's a number game, if he has 10 bad articles about his business, create 20 positive articles to reduce the importance of those bad articles ;)

Do you think a service like EIN press wire would do the job?

If you articles picked up by big media houses then it can work, but there is never a gaurantee that a press release will work.

If removal isn’t realistic, focus on displacement: build assets targeting the same keywords and intent, not just generic links. or, you can try deindexing those links from Google through a couple of methods that Google allows you to use.

When the sources are strong like news or government sites, removing them is usually difficult. A common approach is pushing them down by building and ranking positive assets like profiles, press releases, niche sites, and authority pages that can outrank them over time.

You can’t reliably remove high-authority pages like news or government listings unless they’re factually incorrect . so the most cost-effective approach is suppression, not deletion. Build strong positive assets (brand site, PR articles, high-authority guest posts, profiles) and rank them with targeted SEO + branded anchors to push negative results down. Consistency in content + authority links usually wins over time.
