I'm assuming you mean replacing your title with a header image? Don't ever stuff your site with invisible H1s for ranking purposes. That may have worked back when Geocities was popular, but Google is much smarter than that. A lot of people use image replacement so that they can have a banner instead of displaying their blog titles in text, though.
Try the image replacement technique in the HTML5 Boilerplate. It works the best performance-wise, but it will leave a faint outline on IE6.
If you want to support IE6, text indent by over 9000 and set your overflow to hidden. Then set a background image for the container div.
