Hello,

Wanted to ask about indexed content and hidden content.

So lets say I have a hidden a page/section of a website which is exclusively visible for members.

Is this hidden page/section indexed in Google even though it is not visible for the general public?

Thanks in advance!

Just make the page no index and it wont be crawlable to spiders

As per my experience, Google will only show the page that it can see ( e.g. your login page's meta description / content if it reaches there). If you still want to show the content to Google, then sniff the browser agent and show the modified content to googlebot :-)

Depends on what plugin or code you use. There are many different plugins available which you can use to block the page being visible both from the search engines and the general public or block the search engines from viewing the page but the general public or it can be just visible by search engines and not the general public.

By the way, if you want to see it for yourself, then openup your Firefox -> press F12 ( Firebug screen) -> Click the small wrench icon on the bottom right cornar-> Check the box next to User agent -> select Other -> type "googlebot" in the text field beside the selectbox. Now without closing the Firebug, open the page in question. You will see for yourself ;-)

Hidden content to manipulate Google's search rankings can be seen as deceptive and is a violation of Google's Webmaster Guidelines.
