Hi,
It's a big debate, but I'll try to be brief.
Considering that PHP which is the programming language is food so therefore if I want to eat I have to code, if I am on a specific diet or food allergic or whatever I can decide not to include it in my recipe. If I don't have time to cook myself or if I don't know how to cook, I take a prepared meal (Wordpress, Magento ...)
You should also know that all CMS have their limit and to go further you need a personalized development.
You should know that the majority of websites are developed in PHP, Wordpress is developed in PHP and it is based on plugins that other developers have created.
Java is widely used in banking and software.
I don't think their story will end anytime soon.
