Hi all. I have moved away from the site I was looking at when I made my initial post, but I am on to a new one now. I am looking to buy a business that would allow me to work from home. So that narrows the field considerably to mostly web properties. The problem is, I essentially know nothing about running a website, from SEO work to building backlinks, etc.

The site I am currently looking at provides a list of information to their paying customers (one time payment). According to the seller, it is completely on "autopilot" and there's no real work needed on the site or content itself. I cannot find any backlinks to the site or really any references to it at all in a Google search other than whois info.

The seller has shared Paypal screen shots for the past four months showing the income he is claiming and I do not seen any refunds or chargebacks listed. I have asked for a Google Analytics report and the full Paypal history (site has been around for 10 months).

So I guess my question is: are there some high-level due diligence steps I can take to look into this a bit further on my own or specific questions to ask the seller that might be a bit more "revealing"?

And if your answer is "You're an idiot and have no business buying something you don't understand", that's fine too. :) However, please know that I am willing to learn all that I can.

    Thanks very much.
