Hi All, shouting out from Las Vegas (USA) here. And no, I do not gamble. I like my money too much for that! Plus, kind of silly to gamble if you live here, at least that is my take.

This forum drew me in, as I really love its energetic spirit and drive. It also seems that people today starting out are light-years ahead of folks back in the day.

Hate to show my age, but have been in Tech and Finance since it seems before most of you were born, I assume :| My first modem was about putting the handset on top of the modem. That would make sense if you were around back then :p

I started in software programming on a funny-looking thing called the Timex Sinclair 1000. All I could do was learn BASIC on it, and I could not even save. Think of BASIC programming like learning to play the Recorder in music class, if that makes any sense. Since then, have worked on everything from C/C++, Python, Java/JavaScript, and too many to list. I have played around with a lot of the newer stuff, but I do not do much coding these days, so not a need for that, but I can usually pick it up pretty quick.

As silly as it sounds, my favorite was, and still is Perl, I feel you could do anything with that, and it is a lost art, which is sad because I created some pretty cool things with Perl. I have tried to play around learning COBOL because it still is very relevant to a lot of companies I work with. Crazy enough will probably be around for some time, with so few people knowing it, but I am more hopeful that even if it is not replaced, that maybe some better tools come out, but that is a beast.

I will not go into the next nearly 30 years, rather will just show my experience with the upcoming post, but as a teaser, I will say that I built out my first data center almost fifteen years ago. Not as impressive as it may sound, this was at a time when data centers were maybe a few dozen racks, throw in a few dozen pizza boxes into each one, and hope for the best, but it was a lot of fun.

Anyway, loving the spirit that everyone in the group shows, and it amazes me how polite and kind to everyone else is. I can only hope to continue to see that.

Catch you on the next thread :p

P.S. I am "almost" 50, as in a year, or three, so not as old as some may think. What can I say, us oldies got started young working back in the day!
