In order not to stray too much of the mark, I suggest not buying any sort of extolled online monque guru make money quick guides (with most of the praise being fake anyways), as many unwary have fallen into that same trap, some completely giving up on IM, thinking that the damned thing must all be a scam!
Let me tell you that it is not, as there have been many a few that went from being broke to the biggest of revelers, getting to experience rhapsodic moods only a select few can adorn themselves with.
This would be the impromptu outline of what it all boils down to in the end, have a goal and try to enjoy yourself as much as you can!
