I have been using an SEO service for about a year and lately (October) our rankings dropped. I'm asking the SEO guy (who has great reviews on BHW) whats going on. He blames penalties for the drop, I have roughly 4-5 keywords out of 15 that are ranked top 15 everything else pretty much sucks:

Just an example of some keyword rankings:

49
30
8
49
7
not top 50
not top 50
10
33
13

Do I use another service or keep this guy around for another month? Before top 10 for all 15 keyword. Advice?

If they have been dropping even though he says he is still working on them, I would find someone else. Unless he can give you a detailed report then I say its time to move on.

Most of us were hit by google update and no one to blame, but ask your existing guy about his strategy of recovering those, and if you have year relationship with him, why not give him a chance.

Chances are if you are in the SEO industry know what/how to recover from those.

Regards,

But doesn't make any sense to continue with little to no movement in rankings. Before we were top 3 for some very competitive keywords, I like the idea of having him give me a report. I'll see what he says tomorrow before I send another payment which is due today.

Ask for a detailed report on the progress and also try to get a second opinion from someone that knows how things are done, so you will know if he is even in the warm water with his work or if he is just milking you out dry.

Also if your site got hit by penalties as he mentioned, then he must tell you what they are and what he is doing to fix them.

good luck

It would be best not to find other services yet. As you can see, if he has been working for you for a year already and have a lot of successful ones then would it be unfair to kick him out just just because he failed to rank on the month of October. There is a huge possibility that he has been caught up with the changes of Google, so give him more time to figure it out. :)

You can't target just 10-15 keywords alone. Google will surely identify that you are trying to manipulate the rankings for just a few keywords. Don't limit the no. of keywords. This is more likely a penalization.

You can try creating a new page dedicated for the keyword that has declined in rankings.. Get smart, use citation, fix onpage seo and build trust.

Hit me up in PM if you need help..
