Hey Everyone and a question

Just wanted to say hi and to try out IM. It was always on my mind as a way to create more income, but never bothered with it. Now I want to take a step into the IM world and learn about it. Really like all the info. that's here and I love the success stories, really motivating.

I do have one silly question though.... one makes money from selling a product via affiliates? ex. I make a site that has articles and reviews etc and I link it to the seller? How does the seller know it was me that directed traffic to him? There's something missing that Im not getting, hopefully someone can clear this up.

Yes, you have the basic premise right.

The way you get paid for generating these sales/leads for advertisers is to join an affiliate network. Once you apply and are accepted to an affiliate network, they will have a menu of advertisers offering to pay you in exchange for providing them with visitors to their website that convert into sales or leads.

Search for affiliate networks and you will find tons of them. Compare them and read about what types of advertisers/offers they have on their network to decide which affiliate networks you want to apply to. Most of them will require that you have some type of website in your possession that they can link to you in your affiliate account.

I have a website, but nothing crazy... its just my personal website.
Is there anyway of being accepted into an affiliate network without having a website? I would like to know the deals/promotions the network has so I can create a site based around that.

ClickBank will accept you without a website, however, most other affiliate networks will require that you have one.

In most cases, the network doesn't care what this website is about, they simply want to see that you aren't some jackoff who is just window shopping and wasting their time. So, as long as your personal website doesn't look like crap you can definitely use it to get into most affiliate networks.

I have the same mindset as you. "Well I can't build a website until I'm accepted so I can build a website around a specific product or offer." But they don't care and still want to see a website from you beforehand.
