I bought a dedicated server in 2017 sep 07 for 71 EUR then on oct 08 i paid another 67 EUR via paypal for an another month...
In these 2 months I used this server max 1 hour .My project not worked out,the server wasn't good for me so I didn't needed anymore.I forgot abot it completly.
Now I got a letter from pro kolekt(a local debt collector or what) that I need to pay 225 EUR for hetzner and I need to fax them the evidence.
I don't know what to do.Why the server continued for several months after I didn't needed anymore and I didn't paid the paypal inovice? I don't get it.
I never had this experiecnce before.

Now I need to pay this 225 EUR or what?

Because if you didnt cancel with them they probably continued to provide you service. Check their toss if they require you to cancel it

just because you dont use it doesnt mean you wont pay it lol... you need to cancel it . why would they want to cancel it .
Something similar happened to me once, just try to call hetzner and explain them the situation and hope for the best.

If you didn't cancel then you will owe them the money.
Check the ToS
Call them, you might get lucky.

I had a lot of problems with such a scammy german hostings. You can register with 2 clicks, but if you want to cancel you have to do A LOT of work. I find this not correct for the end user. I had another server in simmilar german big data center, after I purchased the server the bill come at once so I had to pay about 7k euro at once, when I asked wtf is going wrong, they said, it is logical that the price is at once, and if I want to pay monthly it will cost 40% more. I was shocked. You pay more, get less resources comparing to other data centers, and get 0 adequate customer support.

and talking about support, I have a friend, who know a person from his collage, who is now support at a big hosting company. He knows almost nothing from the IT, barely works with office and excel ... so this is just an example for good customer service ... ha - ha ....

I emailed them.
Yes but I didn't pay the paypal invoices and they still continued for 3 month...
In other cases I set paypal auto payment or if I don't pay the invoice they suspend the server...I never had this experience before...

Yeah, but in this case at least Hetzner isn't at fault... Or do you stop billing your clients for services they never canceled, but just stopped paying for? I'd invoice the shit out of a client who didn't pay, and with penalty fees. Just like Hetzner.

Companies that make it hard to cancel, cause you to jump through hoops that are unreasonable tick me off to no end.

Show some respect to the client and if they ask to cancel, even if it is not via your preferred method, let them cancel.

Can't disagree on that part. Have you ever tried cancelling Comcast? Bloody hell.

But in this situation, I'm on Hetzner's side, since I've had three servers from them, still have two, and I cancelled one of them by sending them an email, which they confirmed was from me by calling me and asking if I really want to cancel. Said yes and that was it.

Comcast blows chunks... worst company in the world yet I pay them every month.

I'd name a couple of others that are a HUGE pain to cancel but I'd be hijacking this thread.

Hetzner is a pretty reputable company. As far as I've read their Tos (german version), they are according to standard German laws.
Contracts are open-ended, with a cancelation period of 30 days to end of month, earliest termination point is when reached min. contract duration.
Cancellation of contracts are possible by letter, fax, mail or from the admin control.

That are pretty much standard german contracts. Stopping payment wouldn't automatically cancel that contract, which is also pretty much standard, I guess pretty much standard for any bigger company around the globe.
According to German ecommerce laws you had the right of revocation for 14 days after signing the contract, to dip out of the contract and getting your money back.

I'm not affiliated to Hetzner but had several customers that host or hosted with them. Negative poinit some customer had with them when they exploited their fair use principal of unmetered traffic and bandwidth with dedicated servers.

That really sucks but if you have already been passed on to debt collectors you may not be able to sort it out with hetzner. You should definitely get in touch with them first to see if anything can be done on the off chance that it can.

Companies that have a cancellation periods do suck but when it comes to b2b transactions and deals you do not get the same protections as you would as a consumer and it would be hard to argue that something like a server would be for personal use and not business related.

Good luck

I don't blame hetzner...I forgot about this server completely and in the past if I didn't paid the different services was cancelled and thats all...This is new for me...
Can i pay via paypal?
What happen if I don't pay?
They provided the bank details in past email on jan when they suspended(I didn't see earlier) but I also need a name if I want to pay via bank account...So what now?
And I need to fax to pro kolekt...I don't even know how can I fax and where...why email is not good?
In the letter is if I don't pay in 7 days this information will be published to register of non-inked invoices or what...I don't even know what the fuck is this...

First of all try to contact hetzner and clear if that debt collector is legit to collect for hetzner.
If so ask em how to sorrt that out.
Make sure to cancel that contract.

Call them and explain. It's actually your own fault. As they are providing a service to you. Can you imagine your phone service cutting you off as soon as you forget to pay the bill? Imagine upset you would be if this occurred.

Hetzner is actually one of most reputable dedi providers on market. Its nearly like a mercedes in hosting industry. They are not scammers etc.

@OP
Write email to hetzner, give them link to this thread, tell them that many people from this forum buy services from them (its actually true), and if they will charge you this 225 euros it will be very negaitve just for them. Ask them if they could just let you go without paying, or ask them if you can pay directly to them without pyaing debt agency fees. Login to your acc in hetzner and check how many actually you owe them. After non-payment service is usually suspended after 1 month, so most of this 225 euros can be debt agency fee.

P.S.
According to law and hetzner TOS you need to pay sadly, hope you can avoid that.

What happen if I don't pay?
Your debt will be bigger and bigger, once it reach 5-10k euros someone will just take money from your acc directly, take your car or something.

Long time ago I forgot an Amazon instance running and the bill arrived. I contacted them said I had not usd the instance, they checked the CPU load and network traffic and agreed I was telling the truth, provided full rebate.

Maybe you can do the same if you prove you didn't use any resources.

That is amazon though, they are really understanding in a lot of instances but most companies are not that reasonable. Hopefully this company is but if he is receiving letters from debt collectors it has likely gone past the point where hetzner would do something about it.

If you continued to receive the emails from them, that should of been a red flag.

Ok I paid... Thread can be closed...
