HELP! With VPN vs. Proxies For My BH Programs

I am trying to figure out what exactly I need to run several programs that you should all be familiar with and could really use some help on the topic.

I am only learning about VPNs tonight but i believe i have a good general knowledge of how they work. I seriously appreciate ANY 2-Cents you can offer!

As far as i know proxies are not working with web applications. So the best option are vpns.
They are easy to setup and configure, and most of them provide an OpenVPN application which installs with few clicks.
