Waddup guys, I 've been around the block for couple months on Upwork trying to get first job at least, of course I tried offering my services for free but that didn't work. Do you guys have any tips or maybe need something done and have Upwork profile? Of course it would be free but since its required to bill just the minimum would be fine. As for my profile I've done readiness test, setup portfolio website with my own works throughout the years. Also I don't practice copy -paste type of applying for the jobs. Categories I apply for are mainly graphic design and video editing. Thanks for your time and tips.

Wrong idea OP, Just exchange reviews and all may help.

I don't think that tests on Upwork will help you at all. What you need to fix though is your profile description and the proposals you send. Convince them that you're a professional in that field and you want the job badly. Don't sound like a robot (you know what I mean). Hope this helps.

I personally steered clear from upwork/freelancer. It is just not worth it on the short term to get jobs. I think personally you a better off on seoclerk if you have some kind of portfolio

Plz is there anyone who can help me with an upwork approved acct. Or help me approve my acct

WHat is your Upwork profile link?

You tried working for free and it didn't work? Hell I'll give you a review for a free job and I don't even know what line of work you are in, I'll create a project! haha

If it makes you feel any better, I was not even able to post a job on upwork because they apparently already have too many people doing the same thing. lol

Buyers don't bother to see anything, but the Rating and project completed. Guess, no one is free to read your cover letter even.
Second, if you are good at something, never do it and offer it for free.

First of all, you shouldn’t offer your time and expertise for free, that’s not fair to you. My brother and I just set up his Upwork profile, so I can only tell you what he did. Here goes:
  • First, we filled out as much of the profile as possible.
  • Then, he started researching YouTube videos about setting up a successful profile and joined the local Facebook group for people who work on Upwork.
  • Completed Upwork readiness test (which you already did), as well as the English test and a few graphic design tests that check if you know how to work in various programs and know the design basics.
  • Uploaded about 10 of his previous projects to his portfolio.
  • Started sending in proposals.
He didn’t get any responses the first few times, but the key is to keep sending them out. Make sure to do it by the book — there are Upwork pages that tell you exactly how to apply (explain how you’d get the job done and what makes you the person they should hire).
My brother actually got the “Rising Talent” (or whatever it’s called) badge on his profile after just a few days, without even doing a single job. We don’t know how it happened, we just assume that Upwork awards them to people who are actively trying to fill out their profiles. Now he's done a few low-paying jobs, but it's slow going. But I imagine everyone’s journey is different.
Anyway, I wish you the best. Just don’t sell yourself short: you need to get paid and clients need to understand that.

If I see someone offering to do something for free - unless I know them in real life - I'll assume they have no idea what they're doing and I'm about to get some garbage.

Sure, it's free, but my time is money and it's probably a waste of time.

People will go with whatever option poses the least risk of wasting their time.

Put some price at least.

But up-work bans you if you send too many proposals and get no Jobs. How many did he send? did he include a link to his portfolio in the cover letters?

Well, I don't think he sent out proposals to too many listings. Just the ones he was confident he could do and pretty sure he might get. Most of them didn't pan out, but at this point he has done a few low paying jobs, so it's not like he's not getting work. As for the question about portfolio links, I believe that he just directed the potential employers to his Upwork profile, which contains a portfolio and the links to Behance and similar portfolio sites.

Don't offer your service for free. Don't low ball your proposal.

The first thing clients wants is waste timers, show confidence on your proposal.

the same problem happen with me but my upwork account got suspended because i send a lot of proposal without any work and my account still suspended till now
