Help With Keywords And Search Results

My website is ranking for keywords, but google is ranking a sub page, rather than my main domain, how can I get google to rank for the keyword and show my root domain in the results?
What am i doing wrong?

Is it because im sending backlinks to this page?
Or is it because the density of the keywords on the sub page is greater than my home page?

If you need your root domain to be on top, you need to optimize if just like your sub page as well as build backlinks to your home page with anchor text .
