Help With HTML to Open Web Page in a New Tab

Does anyone know if you can control whether a webpage opens in a New Tab vs. a New Window? I know the code for a new window:

target="_blank"

Thanks. Just want to know if it can be done, and if so, how to differentiate between the two.

Right now it isn't possible.
P.s. target="_blank" isn't valid in XHTML strict anymore. Just letting you know if you're picky about that stuff

Why is that? i use _blank in W3C all the time and that never showed me that as error will check again just to be sure and to see that they didn't change that.
