Help with Affiliate Software

I'm wondering if the fine members here could tell me what they would look for in an affiliate software package that you would use to run your own affiliate network on your website.

I'm working on a project atm and need to get a handle on what are the most important things you would look for and a price point you'd be prepared to pay. What is it that would sell this software to you? I hope that's not too broad.

Thanks! :0)

I will need a network to promote my affiliate program, once I have it up and running.
