Help with a Windows Server Setup Suggestions

Hi All.

I hope somebody here have some suggestions for me.

I have a client that decided to change their internal network.
What they have currently :

- Uncapped adsl with a cisco router
- 5 static IP's
- 10 users on the network
- normal file server with windows 7.


What they would like to do :

- The server Change to Windows Server software
- Everybody is setup onto a domain that connects them to the server.
- Microsoft Exchange for everyone's email to go to the server and is then downloaded to their pc's
- The same server should have some kind of Proxy software and should be connected to the cisco.
- When somebody goes onto the internet they should pass through the server and track all internet usage.
- Their Accounting software will have a folder on the server, where a max of 5 users will connect to the software.
- They should be able to connect to this accounting software as well as their emails from places other then the office. ( Using Different internet connection )
- Remote administration of the server
- Firewall software on the server to protect against hacking.
- There might be more but I think this will do it for now.

Is there anybody that can please give me some advice as to what software would I need and possibly some info on how to set it up.

It would be greatly appreciated.

hmmm you need window 2008 installation, then active directory setup, domain controller, group policy changes, local policy changes, exchange server setup etc etc

i suggest you to hire expert for this.
 
Thx for the reply seopencil. I got the Windows Server 2008 and Microsoft Exchange with 15 Cals.

I am experienced in the IT field and have been working in it for 6+ years. I just have never Install Windows Server with the Mentioned Setup ever before.
I have done some support on Server and did manage to solve the Issues.
My biggest Concern is the Proxy, what software to Use, and how to get everyone to dial in onto the server for their emails and the vpn to work on their admin software.

I can't find anybody local to hire to help me, that is why I turned to BHW.

So if there is still anybody with suggestions that would help great. Thx all.

Easy: Mercury Sever
Hard: Microsoft Exchange

- The same server should have some kind of Proxy software and should be connected to the cisco.
Here i would think of the following network design

<Internet> ---- <ADSL MODEM> ---- < CISCO ROUTER > ---- < Server NIC1> ---- <Server NIC2> --- < LAN>

But that's not that safe

Better: -Email Server
<Internet> ---- <ADSL MODEM> ----- <DMZ> ---- < CISCO ROUTER OR FIREWALL > --- < LAN> ----- <File Server and DC>

Place a Email Server in the dmz, so people can also connect to their email over the WAN.

- When somebody goes onto the internet they should pass through the server and track all internet usage.
Microsoft has it's own solution for that, it's called Micrsoft TMG or Microsoft Forefront TMG

- Their Accounting software will have a folder on the server, where a max of 5 users will connect to the software.
Fileserver you can say how many connections are allowed on the share or better create a policy which group of people can access the share.

- They should be able to connect to this accounting software as well as their emails from places other then the office. ( Using Different internet connection )
Microsoft Forefront TMG also offers VPN
Easier: IPCop < OpenSource Firewall OS, you will have to buy another box for Firewalling but hey spend a buck>
Easiest: Hamachi Buisness <do not recommend, since it depends on another company>

- Remote administration of the server
VPN + RDP

- Firewall software on the server to protect against hacking.
That's what ever you prefer i personally i love Symantec Endpoint Protection, which can also be used on clients and has a Server software to manage the rules.

- There might be more but I think this will do it for now.

Thanks a lot for the info it helps so much.
I will work through everything, Im busy setting up a testing Server everything on my own network.
I have to start on the client's server on Friday and Saturday, and then have all the users live on Monday.
So Im testing everything on the Testing server now.
Will let you know if I need any other help, and Im sure I will lol.

necro, I just want to personally thank you for all your help.

I have spend the past 2 weeks with you on skype support.

I was able to setup everything and learned so much in the process that it is absolutely priceless.

I gained a great deal of knowledge, as well as respect for you in every aspect of life.

Even-though Im not completely an Idiot and did a lot of google searches and found lots of tutorials,
and If I don't understand what they are asking of me you had a look, and helped me to understand.
