I'm in a big need of some Wireless internet.
The main problem here is that:

My room is located too far from the wireless router/modem- thus I cannot connect.
How can I still get internet??

I see some other people around me have a TP-LINK or smthing router installed?
So that's something that can receive wireless from bigger distances right?

Any solution that will help me with getting internet will be rewarded !

Unless you have actual access to the router supplying the internet connection, there's not a whole lot you can do. I have no experience in linking multiple routers, but that should be possible, as long as the routers themselves support it.

I'm not a geek when it comes to routers & stuff.
Any bit might help me.

So an access point (from company: TP LINK for instance).
Is smthing that can give me access to a network far away (where my laptop cannot reach)?
 
I am sorry dude TP link , SMC or any other Routers are used just to convert the Broadband line into WIfi. Unless you have the cirect line you can't have the WiFi.
 
Go to youtube and type "biquad wifi antenna". Make your own :D or buy "wifi yagi antenna". It's up to you.

Have you thought about a directional antenna? Works wonders for me.

Dealextreme has some too I think though I bought mine at mycom.nl. I don't think they ship abroad like dealextreme does.

EDIT: I need to cross 15 meters through 3 walls for my main connection but it has no problems connecting to other routers 50 meters away...
Brand name is Asus btw, not sure on the type.

you either need to relocate the wifi router/your room :) or change it for something which has better signal or use a range expander

not just the distance, but thick walls, metal, mirrors etc. also can weaken the signal

i'm using a linksys wrt54gl more than 5 years now, i've never had a problem with it, its distance from my lappy is not that big though, maybe 10 meters :)

I live in a public student resident campus thing.

SO I only have access to the internet from a local room, my rooms is like maybe 10-20 meters down the hallway.
So I'm thinking of a way to get freaking internet into my room -.-

Are you using internal wifi antena in your computer?. (PC or Laptop)

I'm not a wifi / router thing geek.
Never messed with those things;

So yes, I use an internal wifi antenna of my Laptop (standard)

what about an USB WIfi Adapter?
 
Ok, so firstly check where you get the signal. You can us your cellphone. Secondly you can try install linux distribution (Live - instaled on usb e.g. Ubuntu) and try to cache the signal. If it doesn't make u result, must buy external wifi card with option to plug a external anthena. This option is the cheapest :]
 
Either build/buy a wlan antenna (which improves the range of the router) or buy a "wlan repeater".
It kind of works like: Recieve WLAN signal, output WLAN signal. This also improves the range alot :)

I am not disagreeing with you but the OP would have to know how to start airodump-ng and figure out what all those numbers mean. Quite simple though: Anything above 70 in the first row will make for a slow or bad connection according to the manual though I have had decent results for surfing with higher numbers.

Still, that takes research and I don't think the OP wants to do that. He would be better off trying a USB dongle if his own antenna is crappy or a directional antenna if it really is a distance problem.
Repeaters a definitely not the answer. :P
 
Amsterdamer - It's all about to make a laptop wifi card signal stronger. Linux is only for checking the signal and try to connect, there is no need to use wardriving technics :). Linux have very good drivers for wifi by sending more voltage for e.g. wifi the signal will be stronger. Cellphone is only for determine where he can get a signal. After having this data we know what to do, what kind of stuff to buy to get connected :D

I wasn't getting into wardriving but I get your point. Carry on. :)
On a side note I did notice better connections and download speeds in Linux, now I know why. Thanks for that.
