Help understanding hostgator visitor stats

Hi BHW

Im looking for a little help in understanding the hostgator visitor stats...ive used it for a while now and have got to grips with all the other features, the only thing im struggling with is trying to understand what to pay attention to..

Should i be looking at unique visitors?....clicks....or what??

i would pay attention to :

Visits Duration - i think that this is the most important thing,its show you how long your visitors stay on your site.
if its a low numbers so your content not interesting enough.

For stats I like Piwik on Hostgator. There's even a desktop widget so you don't have to go to your pages all the time. It's free and works like a charm. I don't think it's in Fantastico though - you'll have to get it from the site. Install is easy but you have to create the db manually, the piwik install can't do it on HG

dont confuse hits for visitors!

i know a guy selling adspots claiming he gets 30,000+ hits a month to restaurant owners and of course the restaurant owners dont know crap about site stats and think that hits are visitors....

good for the guy selling, bad for the restaurants as hes scamming the crap out of the restaurant owners at a time restaurant owners are closing up shop left right and center...
