I have recently purchased a domain on namecheap and used it in blogger. Now I decided to use a self hosted wordpress site. I have purchased hosting on hostwinds like 5 mins ago. Can I used the domain name from my blogger to this new hosting? and how? Do I need to specify the custom domains on namecheap? Anyone knows? or any advice? before I do something stupid.

I have added the two nameservers of hostwinds. I have also installed wordpress on hostwind's cpanel. It gets 404 error. How do I connect wordpress to the domain? I guess I'll wait 24 hours and see.

up! anyone?

I am now getting this error:

If you are the web site owner, it is possible you have reached this page because:

  • The IP address has changed.
  • There has been a server misconfiguration.
  • The site may have been moved to a different server.

1) You need to update the DNS settings at your registrar (the place where you bought your domain) to point to the nameservers of Hostwinds.
2) You need to update the DNS settings at your registrar by changing the "A" record. The current should be the blogger IP address and the new one should be your IP address on hostwinds
3) Make sure the Hostwinds control panel (NOT cPanel!) knows of your domain name and the correct nameservers. Some hosting companies allow you to use external name servers and sometimes doesnt require a hostname to be input.

Additionally you can contact Hostwinds and ask them for help. Any host worth hosting with will help you free of charge and even do it for you.

I'm done with no. 1. What will I put in the A record if I want it to be connected to wordpress?

Step 2 is not needed

Once you updated your NS we then control all your DNS settings including your A records which are setup automatically upon account creation

3) also done automatically

Now all you gotta do is wait for the DNS to propagate, please open a ticket if you have any problems

I have opened a ticket. When I go to my domain there is this error.

if you are getting a 404 error trying accessing yourdomain.com/index.php
sometimes the default index page is set to index.htm or html

I go to hostwind default website page like I said above. I have installed a wordpress and that gives me a 404 error when clicking on wp/admin.

do you have access to your blog/hosting when using the server IP adress?
for example on hostgator it's xx.xxx.xx.xx/~username/

u will just need to wait upto 48 hours after u changed ur nameservers - if u still have problem - pm me with ur domain name i will check for u :)
