I seem to be stuck trying to figure out how to rank for keywords with my website.

At the moment most of the traffic to my website is actually coming from Youtube. Around 1500-2000 UV per month. As for search engines, I might get like 10 impressions every month if I'm lucky. All of which are probably from me trying to find myself in serps (which I can't seem to do most of the time unless I add my domain name in to google).

What advice could you guys give me for improving SEO rankings? I had pretty decent articles created that are targeting not too competitive of keywords (I think). There are around 25 of them on my site targeting one specific niche. The keywords don't get too much traffic, but that's ok. as for the articles, they are copyscape free and I've checked over them and adjusted the keyword density to something reasonable (to what people suggest on these forums).

As for linking. I haven't done too too much. I'm a novice and I also don't want to do anything too risky with the site because I want to go longterm with it so I haven't sent too many. Just a few legitimate blog comments here and there with some random anchors on some relevant sites.

My website root has a CF/TF of 17/17 and most of the inner pages are 15/13 or 12/10.

What do you guys think?

Build your Own Niche PBN with Some Good Moz and Majestic Metrics and Links them to your Site.. You didn't mention your KW Searches, so depend on that you can Increase your PBN Size Slowly.. Additionally do some Links for your KW Variation and never Over Optimize your Main KW.. Keep it within 5-10%... Hope this will help you...

You need backlinks related to the keywords you need to rank for. But first, take care of your onpage seo.

Blog comment is one of the most deadly type of links to use on your site today.

If you are commenting on moderated blogs with low OBL that is okay.
Anything outside that is suicidal.

Contextual links still remains the best.

You may want to get your hands dirty with:

Quality guest blogging
PBN (Must be done right)
Outreach

In the nutshell, you just need high quality, relevant, low OBL and unique content links...

Thanks guys. The thing that is throwing me off is how I can make a Youtube video and it ranks instantly and easily without any work. Yet I could register a new domain or have an old domain and NOTHING ranks.

It's very confusing and frustrating :(

Add more contextual links and social bookmarks/signals. Do this daily at a normal pace and you will start to rank for low comp. keywords rather quickly. I don't know what kind of site you have but it's also good to add new content as often as possible.

I know what you mean as I had a video on youtube that ranked at the top for my keyword in less than 1 minute.

Because YouTube has a lot of authority and they put uploaded videos on their root domain so all uploaded videos benefit from their authority.

If you are afraid of building links to your site, then you are afraid of making money. Unlike YouTube, your niche site needs links if you want to appear high in Google when your target keywords are searched.

Ok that makes sense. But how many links do you think I have to make to rank for low competition keywords? Maybe fear is part of the issue. But then again maybe I just don't know how to build links properly without spamming hundreds of thousands of links using a software (which I've never really done either).

I also heard from people that social signals don't even do anything in terms of SEO. Is that just not true?
