Yeah, but OP wants it without purchasing the domain.You can sign up for Gsuite basic or whatever they're calling it now. It's like $6/month or something but you can set up shared email (something like an info@ or support@) for free as well.

@J_Murray it isn't possible to have a custom email without buying that domain (and hosting). You need to control the domain and you're gonna need to have where to store the emails you get and send.
I'd go with @synciaguard 's suggestion and buy the domain and G suite. It doesn't get better than Gmail, and it's super cost-effective.
