Hey guys,

// @Mods: I am really sorry if this is not the correct sections for this thread.

I am here to ask a help about making money. It is a How to Make money question.

So here it goes. I have a very good friend of mine who is currently living in the UK with a student visa. This friend makes around 500-600 GBP a month (ie. 900 USD) He has to pay rent, bills, and eat. Honestly I have no idea how he is making it there. The guy cannot work a full time job because of his visa; otherwise he would have. He is good at developing iphone, anroid apps, websites etc. I have to mention he hasn't heard of IM, so online marketing is a no go.

Therefore I was thinking of offline opportunities. What can someone in his situation do offline? He has been living there for about three-four years now.

I would very much like to here your ideas, specially from ones living in UK. I just want to give him a hand.
Kindly share your ideas.

Thanks in advance.

If he develops apps and is familiar with developing websites as well, why doesn't he get clients who need those services? Face to face, phone calls and regular mail are all excellent ways to get clients if you're good at what you do. Once he gets a few satisfied clients word of mouth will do the rest.

Visit the offline marketing section? Some of the best methods on this forum are found there..

Thanks man. That's what I told him too. Will that compromise his VISA with the Home Office?

Why can't he change his visa. If he is on a student visa he is, presumably, studying at a university and that is why he can't get a full time job. I'm not sure how the law is on working freelance, but he could look into developing his apps as a freelancer as opposed to being employed.

Of course there are other options, he could work off the books for a gangmaster. You could introduce him to this forum and the IM world. There are many possibilities.

If he is living in the UK then one option is Kickstarter. He can make a project on there and ask the people for funding. I would highly recommend it.

I may have an offer for you buddy, since I am considering business venture in UK, but I don't have the time to develop it right now. It would require your buddy to make phone calls to small business owners in a particular niche. I can offer highly wanted product for maybe 70-75% of the market price. Your buddy can put 10% margin and our prices would still be 15-20% under the usual market values. I won't reveal the niche or the actual idea in this thread.

You buddy will need to call for certain shops to make arrangements for sales and he would need to receive the packages with the products I will send him every week( so it will be once a week) then he would need to deliver it to the UK clients personally or by courier. We are talking about the repair business niche, so once he find few clients, they will be recurring and he would be able to make somewhat of passive income.

I imagine that every client would buy monthly products for about 200-2000 pounds. Usually I think every order would be for around 500 pounds. About 10-15% of those money would be profit for your guy. And also - the products I will send him won't be that heavy. Maybe 10-20 kilograms each per week. Sometimes more if he is doing good job.

He would need to make some cold calling or cold e-mailing to sell the products. But the products are very highly needed on daily basis, and also our prices will be lower than everything the client could have imagined before that.

Have in mind - our products will be quality. It's just double-triple difference in prices for the same products from where I live, compared to UK. The transportation of the products isn't that expensive, so I would be able to give your guy very nice prices that would make him able to make nice profits on monthly basis.

That's it. Give me a PM if you and him are interested.

Best regards,
Axeny

I think the chance of you finding a sympathetic ear in the UK currently is very slim.

The population is at its wits end over immigration as it is, without the risk of the 10000GBP fine for every illegal you employ.

Axeny do it properly pay your taxes, and don't tempt someone in a vulnerable situation into commiting offences that will get him jail in the UK.

Didn't thought it could be illegal.

I am living in EU country, so it's legal for me to do business with people in UK, but didn't thought about the fact that his friend can't do it legally because of his visa.

I withdraw my proposal.

And thanks for the advice, mate. :)

Best regards,
Axeny

If he cant do online work he won't be able to get employment anywhere offline unless it's some dodgy bar or building job which will mostly be full of eatern europeans earning a pittance

Where in the UK does your friend live? I might have some future web development work for him depending on how good he is. Hit my PM.

Why do you want something offline? He could offer his services to build apps on freelancer sites, or even here on BHW.

Yeah I agree with harleybishop. Why not just offer your freelancing services on Odesk, rentacoder and other sites like that? He could make a pretty stable income each month on these sites.
