If someone sends me files for a wrodpress site that they have given me, and I have transfered the domain, how do I install the site.

I have the files:

wp-admin
wp-content
wp-includes
and all the other files

I also have a back up of the database.

I have uploaded the files to the root folder of my domain. but how do I get the site to start working. I try to upload the database via the import action on phpMyAdmin, but it gives me this error:

sql query

#1044 - Access denied for user 'howtopri'@'localhost' to database 'db127624_howtopr

Any ideas?

edit the wp-config.php in your favorite editor and find the mysql database settings and write your new ones

that should get you started..
 
Do I create my own database settings and edit the wp-config file with those setting and then edit the database backup with the new settings?
 
Maybe you should try a new wordpress installation and then replace the files with the files you received. I think this would be easiest for you.

create a new mysql database. Import your WP database through phpmyadmin. In wp-config.php write the new database details
 
I have done this and still get the same error, the op who gave me the site won't tell me what to do. So I am pretty much stuck. I have imported wrodpress sites before with no problem, but they were done with backupbuddy. This is what I have done.

I installed new wordpress, set up new database, went to phpmyadmin and imported his database that was sent to me, this is where I get stuck, it won't take the import. It gives me an error.

I have also tried it where I didn't enter a new database, and tried to import his database and still got same error. I have also tried it with the files he sent me and tried to set up the wordpress site that way, no go.

Look if someone can install this thing I will PayPal $5 or something. The op says he doesn't have the time to sned me a couple of sentences of instruction. If I gave something to someone and they needed help, I would help them. Thats the way I am.

did you forget the config file? didn't see you mention it in your actions.

Geez I don't have time to spoon feed you step by step instructions on this. I'm sorry, as I said via PM and on the original post - I won't be offering technical support.
 
Look I am not looking for spoon feeding asshole. How about common courtesy of a couple of sentences, some direction. I have installed these before with no problem. Just looking ofr some direction
 
this is pretty easy to fix.

as you was told ust create database from your control panel, create its user and its password, assign permisions.

then import the mysql backup to the new database using phpmyadmin

then go to wp-config.php and edit the username, password, and dbname with the recently created.

if you need more help and are willing to pay to have this fixed i have a small fee cause its not complicated task.

Yes, I tried the config file using the new database info I created - didn't work. Then I tried the database info he provided - didn't work.
 
I have done exactly as you have said. Still get same error. Even scrapped the install and started over, same results. I created a new database user and password, set permissions, in my control panel, imported his backup database, get error.
 
Don't even worry about it. Thanks to the people who have responded with instructions. I understand the steps. I have set up hundreds of wordpres blogs, both new and imported, followed everyones steps, and still get same error. I am just going to trash this one, it isn't worth all this. Too bad though could have been a decent site.
 
So you got something for free noticed that there was no support offered, then called the person who gave you the freesite an asshole.

Abusive infraction given. Thats your third, bye bye.
