Hi everyone,

I’ve encountered a tricky situation and would appreciate any advice or solutions.

I found an Instagram account that’s about 5 years old. I know the exact email address linked to it. However, the original email account has expired, so I created a 100% identical email address — same username and domain.

I’m able to log into the Instagram account, but now it asks for a PIN code sent to that email address for two-factor authentication. The problem is: no email from Instagram arrives in my new inbox — neither the 2FA code nor password reset emails.

I’ve tried resetting the password multiple times, but still no emails come through.

Has anyone faced this before? How can I resolve this and regain full access to the account?

Thanks in advance!

If you are logged in the account, after 10-14 days, you can change the account email and then add your own to receive the codes.

What if I can't log in because I need a code sent to my email?

It won’t work because even if the email looks identical, the original domain’s mail server likely no longer points to Instagram. The new email is treated as a different mailbox.
Your best chance is to contact Instagram Support and verify ownership another way.

ig’s backend don’t care if u remake the same email it checks original domain records n creation time. so even if u got the same handle, it ain’t passing their trust check. that’s why no 2fa or reset mails come in.

This is a domain trust issue, IG’s system silently drops sending emails if the MX records don’t match the original setup. I’ve seen this with expired GoDaddy domains where recreating the email did squat. Workaround: Use a device that previously logged into the account, force a ‘suspicious login’ flag, and pray IG offers SMS fallback. Last year, that bypassed 2FA for 3/5 of my locked accounts.

Side note: If the account ever ran ads, hit up Meta’s business support. They’ve unlocked accounts for me after a 10-day ticket grind. Let me know if you’ve got ad spend history changes the game.

Have you tried checking spam/junk folders or reaching out to Instagram support directly? Sometimes emails can get filtered out or delayed. Worth a shot!

Two-factor codes won’t arrive if the email isn’t truly active—try recovering the original email or contacting Instagram support for account verification

Identical email is not possible
test the newly created email and password you know to confirm the account

Instagram still recognizes the original email account, not the new one you created, even if the address looks the same. You’ll need to recover or reactivate the original email account through the email provider. If that’s impossible, try Instagram’s account recovery options .Need more help?on the login page and provide proof of identity. Without access to the original email, regaining full access is very difficult.

Instagram is still linked to the original email server, so even if you recreated the same address, it won’t receive the 2FA emails. You'll need access to the original email host or contact Instagram support with proof of ownership.
