I think that defines competitor that you both are trying to rank for the same keywords.

He copied the content of hundreds of pages except changing the location, such as "new york" and "franskton" are two pages, but the content is same.
I am also doing this, but not as speedy as he did. He posted over 100 pages each day last couple months.
I am doing pretty slow, and tried to optimise the pages, as you might know, it is time-consuming.
I also purchased backlinks from market and hope to improve the authority of my website.

You mean that he has many pages with the same content but the location changes or that he copied content from some other websites? Either way he will get hit at some point, so I would not replicate that strategy.

well focusing on long tail keyword is one of the best ways yo bring qualified traffic to your sites and stay ahead of your competitors. as they are specific and detailed search queries. they have much lower volume and competition. also they tend to have higher conversion rate. but if your competitor is trying to rank through the same keyword then all you can do is better optimization of your content.
