Hi Guys,

First, I would like to thank all of you for giving me ideas on how to go about starting my own IM gig - from doing Fiverr gigs, to starting my own MNS. Since I joined last Oct 2011, I have grown to be a lot more understanding of how to asses and utilize my resources in order to make the best decisions i this fast paced industry. I am also a member of other IM forums but i seem to get more information and wisdom here than anywhere else; amidst the frequent clash of ideas and methods, i always learn an important thing or two from our brothers and sisters who are very much eager to help. kudos to all of you! Now, let me tell you about the setback im facing now...

---

I started an MNS blog last Nov. 2011, with a 20+searches a day keyword with 20,000 "competing pages". until Jan. 2012, i havent touched it much aside from two articles (which i think are SEO optimized enough) and some on-page optimization, because i would like to "ferment" the site for a little before employing very active off page seo / link building (being a newbie, I was afraid to be "sand-boxed" or panda slapped and shit like that.

Upon the end of January, I joined ALN and "sacrificed" three domains to the network, i donated 1 pr2 and 2 pr1 domains, giving me a total of 2 submissions a day (i am thinking of increasing that in the near future). The network did wonders for me! from an average of 3 unique visits a day ( im ranked 20-30+ for my main keyword, i jumped to an average of 52 a day, rank number 3 on the exact search, and 6 on the broad phrase of the same keyword (which has more searches a day btw). I was very happy because of this because i started getting clicks from amazon and adnsense to the point that have decided that i will be setting a monthly website budget for SEO, content building.

But this morning i got shocked to find that during the 8 hours that i slept, i only had 1 visitor. I proceeded with Traffic Travis and Market samurai to check the status of competition and i was shocked that (depending on the tool) i was either ranked lower on the top 10 or lower than the top 100. :c

here is the screenshot of the rankings i took days prior to the "crash", and the result i just got today.

what the hell just happened??!! :c

anyway, heres the layout of my website. I have about 5 pages of unique 450+ word contents.

I have a hunch that it could be a google slap because of the above the fold adsense codes. I did removed two of the three codes above + the voltrank code. and i'll wait for google to "view me" again. I hope that was the only issue. :c

anyway, heres my "SEO blue print" everyday.

1. free socialmonkee submission
2. 2 ALN submission using random related anchor texts.
3. Random google +ing, facebook sharing, bookmarking with my "syndication group".

Again, I hope that this is just a phase. :c

Probably a google dance? Observe it in the next few days and see if it comes back to its original position before it plummeted

I really hope so. It is just my first taste of blood from google so i got really disappointed. :(

It could be to an algorithm change, where they de-value sites that place advertisement above the fold. You can see the article on Google Webmaster blog here:

Doubt it, been researching a niche for a future client and the #1 site for one of his terms has nothing but ads (aside from the title) above the fold, I am quite shocked that this site is #1 as it is pretty competitive, seems they are ranking primarily behind the strength of article networks and some web 2.0's and a few blog comments.

Yes, i thought about that too. that is why i removed the link ads, and one of the 250x250 box ads above the fold, leaving a lonely 250x250 box after the post title before the post body. Thanks for the input :)

That is correct, im still seeing #1's with the maximum amount of ad spaces on them. Its crazy, how they manage to stick to their rankings amidst the algo change. :c i hope that this is just temporary, for i have big plans for the website... thanks for the input! :)

Its quite difficult and dangerous for Google as a business to just automatically penalize every site which matches certain criteria. Just because some sites haven't been penalized, doesn't mean that no sites have been penalized.

It has nothing to do with the ads.

You are penalized because of Search Terms plugin.

Almost every website that is using that plugin (all over the web) are getting penalized.

Remove that plugin and you may come back.

But based on my experience and from what I read, your site is done.

Thanks for the thought! :)
I'll keep that in mind. :)

Me too. I lost some ranking for keywords like many others did on January 20th and assumed it was the "above the fold" algo, but the site that replaced mine in position three is full of AdSense ads. Exactly like this:

Hi, have you recovered since your website's rank decreased?

on the positive note: I am not alone! do you mind me treating you to some big mugs of beers:cheers:? :D

I'm in the same situation, one of my site's ranking dropped from 10th to out of top 100 a week ago,the worst thing is i have no idea why this happen and how to solve it.
i hope its just google dance, cause i have nothing to do with it except pray. :(

As Bobby said already, this has everything to do with the SEO search terms tagging 2 plugin. My site also got hit at the beginning of this year, and when I removed the plugin, it's steadily going up (considering all the other things are same).

Deactivate it, and wait for a few days. You should be okay.

whenever I spray a bug with bagyon, it gets up again after a couple of hours ...

Thanks bro! its just a shame that we have to delete STT2 while it used to be a very good plug-in :C
