    Hey,

I'm moving one of my sites from a shared host (using cPanel) to my VPS (also using cPanel). The problem is the site is big, so the database is too large to import into phpMyAdmin (it's about 200mb compressed, 500mb uncompressed).

I've googled the issue, and most results are people posting in their hosting companies' forums - most people have been told to upload to public_html and the hosting company would import it. But since I have a VPS, how can I do this myself? I'm a noob when it comes to servers by the way ;)

If I upload it to public_html, is there a command I can use through shell to import it?

Thanks, rep and eternal gratitude to anyone who can help! :D

Use Bigdump, to sort out working with bigger databases. Upload both databases zip, and the script to any directory on your box, and run the script. Make sure you set the configuration part right. Since its Cpanel, it would be all easy as you can use the browser interface.

What is eternal gratitude? Is it a currency?

by the way, where is your VPS from? Xsserver?
If you want further help on this, let me know. :)

cheers, I'll give that a try.

Eternal gratitude is currency, but it's only accepted in one pub in the whole world, and you'll never find it :p

    Yeah, it's from XSserver.

Specs and price of the server if you dont mind :)

I just ordered a Linux Unmanaged box for ~$10/m to test them out. I bet yours is fully managed and with cpanel, would be around 50/m right?

If you go to this page: http://xsserver.eu/Germany-vps.html

Mine is the $15.95/month one, 8.4Ghz CPU, 512MB RAM (1024 burstable), 45GB HD, 650GB bandwidth. It's $15.95/month, but an extra $15/month for cPanel, so $31/month altogether.
