I've been lurking this fantastic forum for the last couple of days and, tbh, am still very overwhelmed and feel inundated with a lot of good info. It's just a little hard for me to put it all together and do something hat will actually help me earn income.

A person I know has a blogspot where she posts regularly. She has a rather large following, that all are all very real and engaged (the comments section often has 100+ responses). The blog is simply about her life and the very interesting [and LEGAL] work she does. She's a character for sure.

She has yet to monetize it as she is quite busy and is not interested in doing so. She has not done any work at all to bring traffic to the site. That has simply never been her intention as she simply has [up 'till now] merely enjoyed blogging about her life and trials and tribulations. She has legitimately built a following. Has never done anything in the way of whitehat, blackhat, or anything even remotely resembling either of the two. However, after some discussion she has decided to hand over the reigns to me - for a small price - so that I may start to actually monetize this thing. She doesn't care really. Note, this will be mine, I will own it. But I will pay her a tiny amount to make posts throughout the week.

What would be the optimal way of going about this? She has enough followers whereby a messageboard/forum could work and have regular users. Would this be of any benefit? Should I set up a new website with a new domain name or would it be optimal to leave it alone as a blogspot?

I'm just not sure with what to do first here - How do I proceed? I really don't know which direction I should take this. Is there anything I should absolutely be doing, and something I should definitely NOT be doing?

ETA: She also told me that, in between blog entries, the blog gets about 2-4k hits. I asked her to go more into detail like how many unique visitors and the like but she just didn't know or didn't care to look at the time.

Try selling products related to the niche she blogs about.
    Ads would also work great.
If you want to promote affiliate links then you should
get your own domain name as blogspot wouldn't alow it.
A forum is also a good idea as you can sell advertising space

Thanks. Yeah, I am definitely considering adding a forum. I guess a standard vbulletin works best?

She has recently downloaded Google Anaylitics and she sent me some info but I am having a hard time parsing it and really understanding what it means. Does Alexa ranking mean anything? Because she is currently at a little higher than 4 million. I wonder how much having Google Adsense banned is hurting her.

Anyway, this is some of the info she's sent me:

    ---------------

I can't even tell for when this was generated for and for what time period it represents but if anyone can advise me on if this thing would be worth $110+paying her ~$50/month to blog, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Oh, forgot to mention her niche is poker basically. But she's a Howard Stern Wack PAcker type. Bu the people love her, even as abrasive as she can be.

23k per month should work out to a minimum of $40 a month (that is in a bad niche)

For 110 and 50 a month for maintenance? I would gladly buy the blog if its on the poker niche. I havn't tried blogger though, I wonder where does the the referral traffic came from, also she has a lot of direct traffic that probably means that she has a lot of followers. BTW if you decide on not buying it, kindly forward it to me. lol.

Poker is a hot niche so there's definitely some money to be made in putting ads on there. It has enough of a following to sustain a forum as well. Particularly if you could persuade her to post on there and participate in that way. $110 is a small initial outlay, and while nothing is guaranteed in this line of work, if you're able to make it fly money-wise you should make more than enough to be paying her $50 a month.

In my way, I'd try to catch much subscribers. The unique and good post content will help you to this. If you can make it wll, don't worry about anything else
