just get an SSD and an i7 and you will be fine :-)
 
I like a good keyboard and have had good luck with Lenovo laptops and workstations. MSI is more of a gaming play, which is fine for your purposes. But I do like 512GB SSD!!! Then again the 1 TB for games is appealing. I'm not really helping here am I?

All my Laptops are Lenovo, I could not care less. It is called business.
 
the MSI one since the 965m is better than the 960m.

Lenovo y50 model is having some display issue. yellow color is more darker than standards yellow color

I think that the Lenovo will be the better solution for you. It has a faster processor and the brand makes it all. Lenovo is better brand than the MSI, they have better design and better laptops :)
