Help me stop being forced to FOLLOW

Now I specialize in other networks, I know the basics of twitter but I have never become fully engulfed. I have an account and it just "automatically" makes me follow people. About once a week I have to go and unfollow all the people that it forced me to follow.

I went and deleted all my applications, but it still is making me follow people. Can someone please show me how to stop this?

hmm how about emailing twitter about this and let them remove what makes you follow accounts.
